I seem to always start off these blog posts a big negative, more than often about the weather, so as is tradition - what a miserable start to August!
The sun did make an appearance here in London later this afternoon but I can't believe I still have to wear a coat when I leave the house.
On a more positive note, normality feels like it has resumed, and it's great to see a glimmer of hope. I've now been double jabbed which feels amazing but I'm still reluctant to check into many places. So I haven't really done many museums, galleries, exhibitions or really eaten out much to be honest. But let's see how things pan out over the next few weeks.
I've now started a full time job in a new hotel opening in September, so will be working Monday to Friday 9 to 5 until then. But I hope I will still have free time to get some bits and pieces done!
HEARD in London - History, Eat, Art, Refresh and Discover.
History
There's plenty of online talks going on this month, but one in particular which caught my eye was by the Guildhall Library. On the 3rd at 2pm Caroline of Brunswick - “Injured Queen of England” takes place. It's free but book your spot here.
Eat
I had a bit of a meal kit delivery splurge a few weeks ago so I have a very exciting month ahead! I've already enjoyed a one from Little Viet from Dishpatch last week, but the best one had to from Ixta Belfrage, which was absolutely incredible. They sell out very quickly but keep your eyes peeled and you could be enjoying fish torta ahogada, prawn miso bisque and a prawn lasagne to die for.
From Restaurant Kits I had a fab one from Anglothai which I would highly recommend, and I've got one from Supa Ya Ramen on the way.
Big Mum's Samosas were also a personal treat a few days ago - their fish and chip special was a highlight (including the curry dipping sauce). OOOOh and a huuuuuge börek from Mystic Borek (and other tasty dips) who deliver around London, but also sell out super quick so I suggest signing up to the newsletter.
Gosh I've also got another one a Sri Lanka meal coming in a few days time - I really have gone overboard recently!
Finally, I bought a few freezer noodle packs from Matsudai Ramen which have also blown my mind. I've had a bit of a naughty few weeks it would seem.
Art
On the 9th the Guildhall Library are holding another online event titled The Second Elizabethan Age –British Art since 1952 which sounds right up my street. I might try and see if I can take a late lunch...
Refresh
I'll refrain from singing the usual praises of the various wine schools and clubs which you will see on my previous posts, but a special mention to Little Wine whose monthly subscription has been the best thing I've done in a long time.
Aside from wine, I bought a set of "just add ice" cocktail selection from Nio Cocktails which have been surprisingly good, plus next day delivery.
On the other hand, if you are out and about, why not pay a visit to The Winemakers Club in Farringdon, or becoming a member of 67 Pall Mall whose By the Glass selection of wine gets me every time.
Discover
And to finish off, between the 11th and 13th look up to the skies and seeeeeee. The Perseid meteor shower.
Have a great month, and lets all hope we get a well deserved bit of sunshine!
