Five Things I'm Doing This January

We've made it to 2022, and let's keep everything crossed that this is the year in which normality returns. As always, London is full of things to do this month, and I've come up with a few suggestions of what has caught my eye!

HEARD in London - History, Eat, Art, Refresh and Discover

History

How about witnessing the Blessing of the River Thames on Sunday the 8th on London Bridge. Southwark Cathedral and the church of St Magnus the Martyr join together for this ancient ceremony at 12.30pm.

Eat

The City of London is still pretty much deserted with the 'work from home' rules still applying, so I think it's important to try and support the smaller businesses here. A new opening Where's Fred situated just off Cheapside is certainly worth a visit. Great coffee and a delicious brunch menu throughout the day, with more of a wine bar vibe in the evening.

Art

There's not much newly open this month, but one of note has to be

Francis Bacon: Man and Beast at the Royal Academy which opens on the 29th. Dürer is still on at the National Gallery, Hogarth and Europe too at the Tate Britain and of course The Courtauld has finally reopened!

Refresh

Another focus on the very quiet City of London for my suggestions on where to get a drink this January (unless you're doing Dry January!). The Oyster Shed, Samuel Pepys and Hithe + Seek for great views of the Thames. Or try Vinoteca, Vagabond and The Winemakers Club for a glass of wine or two.

Discover

For this months Discover, how about getting out of London? I don't do New Years Resolutions, but I do plan of making the most of my days off this year and seeing more of the UK!

I'm going to start off just with short day trips, but will also be looking to spending a few days away too. Cambridge, Rye, Brighton and York are all high up my list, but do any of you have any suggestions?

As always, have a great month!
